Electric Mimosas??

*le sigh*  Oh, yellow, why don't you look good on me??

I picked up Revlon Electric after hearing that it was a dupe of Channel Mimosa and wanted desperately to give my life a little color back in mid-January when I wore it. The weather here had taken a dip into cooler territory (and by cooler I mean high 40's to mid 50's, so not cold at all really) and clouds were hanging low, so I slapped this baby on hoping that this little pop of color would brighten my day. Boy, was I wrong. :(

Sadly, this color does not work for me in the "dead of winter." In these photos it gives me lobster fingers, which may or may not be related to the light source that I use for photographing my manicures. And, since I am a natural red head (but not ginger) and fair skinned with ample freckles, Electric left me looking pale and ghostly. Even one of my co-workers commented on it. Maybe in the middle of the summer I will be able to get away with this color on my toes. Again, :(

Application wasn't terrible, I've had worse with yellows before, but it wasn't a cake walk either. This is two coats. Opacity is high, even with the first coat, but there will be bald spots and a second coat was necessary. What I liked about this and looked most forward to was the subtle shimmer that lent this yellow more depth. Ultimately it didn't matter since I ended up looking like a ghostly apparition with this on my nails. It just stuck out like a sore thumb (too punny?).

Dry time wasn't bad and the finish ended up being a satin-like, semi-matte. Top coat was definitely necessary for shinyness although you couldn't tell in these pictures whether or not I'd applied it yet.
