OPI - Fly with Layers, Sparkle, and Flakies... Oh, My!

My brain is currently numbed by schoolwork so I couldn't be bothered to come up with some witty title for this post.  (ok, it turns out I came up with a title other than just "OPI - Fly. Yay me!) Obviously, I'm taking a break (I shouldn't) and avoiding my reading. Blah.

I wore this mani last week from Monday to Thursday and it had staying power. Mostly, I didn't have time to change my polish so to feed my need to do my nails almost daily I just added layers each day. Some looks I liked, some I wasn't too keen on, but overall it was fun and kept my boredom in check.

The first two photos are most color accurate, I keep reading other bloggers describe Fly as a teal but I swear it is an aqua. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I see it on my nails and in the bottle, aqua. Sometimes I think turquoise, but meh, it's not in the traditional sense. The photos below come out way too blue and look more like Ogre the Top Blue from the Shrek collection. For sure they are definitely related, brothers... cousins maybe?

I wore two easy coats of Fly over my bc combo of Retain and Gelous. The first coat was a little thin in spots but if you're not afraid of a little vln you could probably get away with laying down just one thick coat for enough coverage. The second coat more than filled in any bald spots and with a coat of SV looked nice and squishy.

CND - Sapphire Sparkle

Because I wore Fly in my skittle mani I just went ahead and I added a coat of CND Sapphire Sparkle, which I love btw. It has the prettiest shift from blue to purple and after I added it to Fly, I kind of wished Fly had some of that sparkle of its own. I opted to not add another layer of top coat, Sapphire Sparkle dried plenty shiny.

Look at that pretty color shift! It compliments Fly perfectly and I got compliments at work for this combo. :)

After about two days (on Tuesday night, maybe?) I wanted to change up the look but didn't have time for a full change-up since I get home super late from class and have an early morning the next day. Since we're all experiencing "flakie fever" lately, I dug out one of my Finger Paints flakies, Twisted. I like the flakie look, but I wouldn't say that I'm head over heals with it. I tend to enjoy my cremes plain and creamy. lol Anyway,  this is one of those collections that I actually stalked ahead of time and convinced a Sally's employee to dig out of the back room for me. I knew they wouldn't last on the shelves so I just got it over with and snagged 'em up quickly.

OOOoooh, purdy! With the shimmer/sparkle underneath Twisted from Sapphire Sparkle, this look was a little busy for me but still pretty. I kind of wish I could see the combo without SS in the picture, I'm sure the flakies would pop out so much more.

Thursday morning before work I pulled out Essie 'matte about you' to see what I could do for my final day of wear. Honestly, I love this matte look. I have a love/hate relationship with matte, I think it has to do with the way it feels on my nails. The texture is so similar to the way my bare nails feel and I'm used to the super-slick and shiny top-coated feel. I usually matte my manicures right before I take them off just to see the "what if" but don't take pictures.

I'm glad I wore this and not just as a test before removal. The matte really lets the colors of the flakies shine over the sparkle from SS and makes Fly just glow. This was my favorite of the series I think.

So yeah, can you believe the lack of tipwear on these nails after four full days?? WIN! Let me count now, 2 coats bc, 2 coats Fly, 1 coat SS, 1 thick coat Twisted, and 1 coat of matte... that's 7 coats of polish! Seriously, it looked like I had a mountain of polish on my nails! And that's the story of my almost-weeklong manicure. :)
