Jessica Cosmetics - Smokey Feather

Yay Friday! I wish I had something more exciting for you guys today, but I'm still going to work through some of my backlog drafts before I forget everything I thought about them at the time. This post was uploaded back in early February and I've got some from back in late Dec/early Jan too! Don't worry, I'll get through them quick enough and then we can move on to bigger and better things. Yesterday I ordered my first set of stamping plates and the half of the China Glaze Hunger Games - Capital Colors collection that I was interested in. Here's to hoping I'll actually swatch them all at once! It'll be my first go at swatching, but I'll give it a try! I've also been meaning to play with my CG Magnetix that I got WEEKS ago.

Moving on...

Here I'm showing Jessica Cosmetics Smokey Feather, one of the three polishes in their Peacock Queen set. This is a purported dupe of Chanel Graphite, just like Iridescent Eye is a pretty spot on dupe of Peridot. I opted not to purchase the third in this set, it just didn't interest me.

Smokey Feather is a complex mix of varying shades of gold and silver that leans heavily towards a tarnished silver. It reminded me instantly of OPI Lucerne-Tainly Look Marvelous, but after swatching the two side by side on a nail wheel LTLM is distinctly darker and lacks any gold whatsoever. I like them both, but Smokey Feather wins for the complexity.

Overall, I'm disappointed in this mani and the photos I took of it. Usually I take photos of a polish directly after cleanup and before topcoat, but this one was put off until the next morning so unfortunately there is shrinkage. I won't blame it entirely on Smokey Feather, but it is partly to blame.

This mani is two coats of Smokey Feather, the first being relatively manageable while the second coat was considerably more difficult. I'm not sure if it was the temp/humidity in my house, but the second coat was a struggle as the polish thickened up considerably and was a pain to manipulate on the nail. With the second coat being so thick, it didn't dry very quickly and I had to put on my quick dry topcoat. The next morning I woke up to find the shrinkage AND it had a rough texture!

Oddly enough, the shrinkage is only really visible on the second coat... I had no bare tips, just the little ridge. I attribute the texture to the fact that the microglitter/shimmer was hungry that night, having gone to bed without supper. A thin coat of my non-qd topcoat did the job of smoothing out my nails and dried quickly. :)

I plan on wearing this again, and when I do I will post a comparison with LCLM and update as to whether shrinkage issues continue.

So, I hope you lovely ladies out there have a wonderful weekend! I'm hoping to try and spend some time outside if my allergies don't incapacitate me first. Oh, and some schoolwork... there's always more schoolwork.

    1. Thanks :) Shrinkage just stinks. No one else notices but me, but I just can't take it. I wore this mani for three days at least and that was only because I didn't have the time to take it off!

  2. The lightplay on that green is just gorgeous! That OPI topcoat has given me some weird shrinking issues before too, which seemed weird since it's one of the gooey-er polishes...

    1. I think it's pretty neat how the gold gives it that burnished/greenish tint, I actually liked this one more than Iridescent Eye!

I'm not too keen on the OPI Top Coat, it isn't consistent. Sometimes it dries super quick and other times it won't dry at all. I doubt I'll repurchase when it's gone, it was a freebie anyway.
