OPI "Save Me" from the Skull & Glossbones!

Woo Hoo! Wednesday is over! Well, almost... we've got a few more hours to go but they'll just breeze by now that the worst is over. I had a particularly mind numbing study session in the library today and a killer midterm followed directly after that left my brain feeling like mush. I was feeling a little discouraged about my performance on my test until I talked to my classmates... turns out I was more on point than I'd thought! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed over the weekend for decent marks come Monday.

Oh, and looky here! It looks like my nails grew back over night! Nope, tricked ya.  :) These are backlog photos from about a month ago that just sort of ended up in draft purgatory. I really am enjoying my new nail length but don't have more than a single mani photographed so I figured I'd run some ol' draft material while I stack up some new stuff to show you.

Skull & Glossbones is from last spring's Pirates of the Caribbean collection. I wasn't particularly moved by the collection as a whole or even individually, so I was a holdout on getting this until it wound up in the clearance bin at my local Ulta. Even then I sort of waffled a bit, I wasn't sure what everyone was going on about. It is perfect for newspaper nails (which I will eventually get around to trying - when I have time), and I hear a good neutral for all sorts of nail art. I have no nail art skills so this doesn't really apply to me! lol

These photos are two thin and easy coats of Skull & Glossbones (maybe a third?? I can't remember, but most likely just two). It was a lot thinner than I'd anticipated but covered well, it's a nice stormy cloud looking gray with just a hint of green undertones. It is a nice neutral and does good as a palette cleanser, which is what I used it for. Nevermind the weird green glow my silly phone camera adds, I'm surprised I get any color accurate photos!

Save Me is from the recent Nicki Minaj mini collection and I love it. The first time I wore it in my skittles mani I used a silver foil, an Orly Foil FX - Shine, as underwear but thought it detracted from the glitter. I didn't think that was possible, outshining a shiny glitter! Anyway, this time I wore Save Me alone with a grand total of three coats for best coverage. Can YOU see any nail underneath?? Nope, me neither. Three coats didn't make it too thick either, but that didn't stop me from picking at the little bits of the bar glitter that I didn't properly keep clear of my free edges. I ended up using a nipper to snip off the bits that would snag and irritate me.

As a bonus, mom liked this mani when we went out to lunch on a Saturday afternoon.

These last two photos are more of a bonus to show you the holo-y goodness that are the bar glitters in this polish. I only wish that the silver micro-glitter were holographic also. How awesome would that have been?! Also, I think these photos show a more color accurate Skull & Glossbones. Definitely newspaper colored.

Ahhhh... that's me breathing a sigh of relief because today is over and tomorrow is Friday Eve!

  2. Creative combination--I wouldn't have thought to put that glitter with that green but it looks good!

P.S. Any chance you'd consider turning off word verification for comments? Trying to figure out the words is just discouraging enough that I get tempted to give up. :)

    1. Thanks, I was surprised how green S&G pulled on me! I wanted to do something neutral but sparkly, and I'm wading pretty slowly through my pile of untrieds. :)

I've been considering turning off word verification for a while, I know how much a PITA it is to try and read those suckers. It's even harder on phones, which is how I read most of my blogroll. I think I'll just switch to comment moderation. :)

  3. When I saw this on clearance at Ulta, I picked it up and put it back about 3 times. I ended up not getting it but now I want it again. lol What topcoat do you use? Your nails look so glossy.

    1. That's exactly how I felt! Yes, no, yes, no... Ok. Lol I finally just caved and bought it. I use Seche Vite as a top coat most of the time.
