OPI Dutch Blue Shimmers

Good morning, and Happy Tuesday! I know, Tuesday isn't one of those days we normally celebrate but hey, why not?! I'm sorry, that sounds a little obnoxious... trust me, I'm not usually this chipper at 7am. lol Mostly I think I'm trying to psych myself up to get ready for the day. :)

And by "get ready" I mean "wake up!"

It's ok, I'm really awake now and I've got my coffee so that's a good start to the day as far as I'm concerned. I wish I could say I've got the day to myself again, but alas, I have to go in to work today. No biggie, I'm covering for a coworker so I'll be able to pick up a few extra hours. Unfortunately this means no significant housework for me today (is this something I'm really complaining about??) and not a whole lot of swatching.

Yesterday was nice, I had the whole house to myself to do whatever I wanted (cleaning. blech!) and it felt good to get some work done!  When hunny bunny got home we tooled around town, aka we went to the Home Depot and Lowe's - since we are on a never ending cycle of remodeling/construction. Seriously, this man is the most industrious person I've ever met! There's always one project going on and usually more than one! I'm so proud and happy for him, he's almost done with his garage/shop expansion/remodel! Get this, he did everything himself excluding the stucco.

Ok, enough gushing... and on to the polish!

I wore this manicure several weeks ago, right around the time I posted my other Holland manicures, and I'm just now getting to posting it because the Hunger Games flat out took over. I think it's ok though, it isn't as though no one has seen these colors before! lol I did a "color block" but I don't think it really counts since the colors don't contrast at all. Hell, you can barely tell them apart! It took some major squinting to try and figure out which was which in trying to arrange these bottle shots.

I Don't Give a Rotterdam!:

I Don't Give a Rotterdam! is a light (I would say cornflower but I looked it up and it is far too purple) Delft blue, the lightest shade you would see on those pretty blue and white tiles. IDGaR has a beautiful silver shimmer that we're seeing all over the place, it's in just about every shade of blue to come out this season. There's also a very fine golden shimmer in IDGaR, but the silver is most noticeable from a distance.

I wore two coats of IDGaR on my thumb, index, and middle finger. The formula is a little thin and sheer but I applied my second coat thicker than the first and so I got away with just the two coats. Before wearing this mani I had read reviews of both these blues where shrinking was a problem, I remedied that by waiting a bit before I donned a my usual top coat of Seche Vite. These photos are pre-tc but I had no shrinking issues, so tc just gave me some amazing shine and good wear out of this manicure. Since I was super busy I got almost a full week out of this manicure.

I Have a Herring Problem:

I wore I Have a Herring Problem on my ring and pinkie fingers, two coats each. IHaHP has a sheer, watery formula similar to IDGaR but is slightly more opaque and it is possible that the green tint in IHaHP helps out. Color wise, the differences in these two shades are almost imperceptible in certain lighting but differences are easily noted when viewed side by side.  There is the color difference, slight but still there, but the real standout difference is in the shimmer. I hazard to guess that the formula/mix of the shimmer is identical between the two shades BUT, where the silver is most visible in IDGaR, the gold shimmer is the standout in IHaHP! You almost can't see the silver at all without looking reeeeeealy close.

I had no issues with shrinking for this shade but I also waited a while to make sure lower layers were fully dried before I added it, just like with IDGaR. Removal for both shades was a breeze, the shimmer gave up without a fight and that's always a plus.

What do you guys think, can you see the differences between the two shades? Sometimes I can hardly tell but it's there! I only have one shade of the Holland collection left to wear, Dutch'Ya Just Love OPI? and I'm hoping to wear it my mani after next. If you can believe it I am still wearing cat's claws but I'm going to change that ...right. NOW!

  1. I can see the difference, but I wonder what's the point of releasing them both. I'm a giant nail polish junkie and i love love love dusty blue glass flecks and even I don't see the point in owning two ... then again, i have a million very very close greens, that are just about the same, but i think i need them all ... so i guess it's just about the thing that makes you go 'i must have this now'. :D

    1. Blues and greens are irresistible to me so I end up with every shade I can get my hand on. I wish these two were juuuuust a little bit more different though, or at least one being completely green as opposed to just a hint. Either way, I'm happy I have them. I can't say the same for Wooden Shoe Like to Know?, major disappointment for me. But that's what happens when expectations get too high!

  2. I really like these two colors but I can barely tell them apart. Even when I saw the bottles side by side at the store, I wanted both. I just can't help myself. I love the length of your nails and how you shape them. I don't know why I can't let my nails grow...they just bug me when they grow a little.

    1. Thank you!:) I can't believe how long they are right now, this is a record for me actually and I'm starting to get a little paranoid that a painful break is headed my way! They're pretty aggravating some times but it's been so long since I've had nubs that I can't remember what it's like. lol

I bought both of these shades online just working off of other blogger's swatches and it can be a tough call some times. Every photo is different and some are sooo good you just can't resist!
