Lighting bolt! Lightning Bolt Penny Talk & Don't Teal My Heart tape mani!

Today I've got something super awesome for y'all, a tape mani! Woo hoo! I know, not really that exciting but I was pretty proud of myself for actually doing all ten fingers. While not difficult at all, playing with tape can get very frustrating for me. It sticks to bloody everything! Duh, it's tape... I know, I know. lol Still, aggravating. My execution of this design isn't perfect, but I'd like to attribute my inspiration to Nailside and her amazing tape manicures. She a tape/polish layering genius.

I'm wearing two coats of Essie Penny Talk, the Mirrored Metallic I showed you yesterday, and I used Diamond Cosmetics Don't Teal My Heart for my taped tips. I sealed everything with a quick coat of Seche Vite and was good to go. You can see that top coat doesn't affect the chrome finish of Penny Talk too much, it just looks a little more shimmery.

Don't Teal My Heart is my only bottle of Diamond Cosmetics and I am pleased with its performance in this manicure. I haven't worn it as a full mani or swatched it before this, but it was opaque enough to cover the super reflective finish of Penny Talk and it handled/applied very well. In some lights the teal pulls a little green and reminds me of copper tarnish, that beautiful green color copper turns when oxidized.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that I've had this bottle for what feels like a long, long time before I rediscovered it the other night when organizing my new helmer. I won Don't Teal My Heart in a giveaway Polish Fixation held last August (before I even thought of starting this blog!) and somehow it got lost in the mess that was my polish storage. The giveaway was held in conjunction with Teal Toes, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of ovarian cancer. From their website:

"Our mission is to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

How? By painting your toenails teal, the ovarian cancer color. By getting your friend to paint their toenails teal too, and then by talking with people when they ask about it, to make sure that they know the signs of this whispering killer.

Any time of year is good for teal toes, but we especially recommend September, the ovarian cancer awareness month!"

While it isn't September, ovarian cancer awareness month, I hope that you guys will check out the Teal Toes website and help spread the word.
